Team Members
We're going to Manaslu as a small unguided
group. We've opted for a small cohesive team rather than a large
expeditionary force out of respect for the remote nature of this peak. The
team consists of the following members:
| |
Tom Fitzsimmons (Team Leader) - Director,
Washington State Department of
Ecology. Tom's climbing experience includes Denali in 1974 and 1996, and
Everest in 1984. He has climbed in the Cascades, the British Columbian
coastal range, the Rockies in the U.S. and Canada, and in Mexico. |
| |
Scott Boettcher - Environmental planner, Washington State
Department of
Ecology. Scott's climbing experience is largely in the Cascades. He also is an
ultra-runner who has participated in 24-hour races. |
| |
Jerome Delvin - Police officer and
Washington State Representative.
Jerome is an experienced skier and climber. He has climbed mostly in the
Cascades and also in South America. |
| |
Michael McGuffin -
Freelance writer/photographer; former
aerospace engineer. Mike's climbing experience
includes the second ascent of Mt. Pietrobelli in Patagonia. He also
developed this web site for the 2002 American Manaslu Expedition. |
| |
Dan Percival - Electrical engineer. Dan is a native Washingtonian who has climbed many peaks in the Pacific Northwest.
He recently began a "tradition" of a one day climb of
Mt. Rainier on his
birthday at the end of August. He also has enjoyed expeditions to Denali, Aconcagua, and Kilimanjaro. In the past few years he
has discovered ice climbing, and has climbed frozen waterfalls in Ouray,
Colorado, and in British Columbia. |
| |
Brian Sato - Environmental Engineer, Washington State Department of
Ecology. Brian's climbing experience includes Ojos del Salado (22,600 feet) in the Atacama region of Chile, several peaks in
the Wrangle-St. Elias Mountains of Canada’s Yukon Territory, Denali, and various mountains throughout
British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, California, Wyoming, and West Virginia
including quite a bit of rock climbing. He also is an "awesome skier"
-- both downhill and telemark. |
Our team is shown below in photos from a training climb of Mt. Hood,
Oregon, shortly before we left for Nepal.
